The best leaders achieve results and also connect with their people. They use the right proportion of results and relating for each situation.
Leaders who attempt to exert their authority through control will ultimately achieve less in the long run. That creates a lack of understanding of the use of God's authority.
Results and Relating Concept
There is a POWERFUL (Separate) element; however, the power is not from us but from God. He is the authority, and He uses leaders as a channel through which His authority is conveyed. Just as God's power is used to free others, not to control them, leaders are to use their power to free others, not to control them. The power is used to serve others, not be served.
The RELATIONAL (Belonging) element of leadership is utilized when leaders rely on the "Power from the outside, not the inside" principle. That means you rely on outside elements for the power, not yourself.
For example, you use the organization's purpose, core values, or goals as the power, rather than your view of them and their behavior. "The way that you are working does not fit our core value of teamwork. Would you agree with that?"
You can be gentle and serve others when you rely on God's power or the power that comes from outside yourself. However, if you try to be powerful or show that you are in charge, that hinders or prevents gentleness and serving. Worse yet, it tends to create a structure of rebellion in people towards you.
