Could there be an absolute 100% satisfaction guaranteed way to have the best life? What if it was all available to you right now? What if you could have a vibrant, abundant, genuine, robust, meaningful, and devoted life? And, what if you could have a life that escapes corruption and depravity and lets you participate in the very nature of God? Finally, what if there were step-by-step instructions on how to do it?
Is it too good to be true? When you look at it, it may not fit your definition of “best” at first. But it is true! Most people’s “BESTs” are based on lies. This BEST is not. Consider the following three promises from God:
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly – John 10:10
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us – Ephesians 3:20
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. – Jeremiah 29:11
Life More Abundantly
Notice the words. Life…more abundantly… exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think…power…peace…a future and a hope. God wants you to have the best life possible, the abundant life!
You probably have read or heard those verses before. Do you want that type of life? Do you believe it is available or just some words from a book?
Before you think about that, consider some more verses. Look specifically for what God says is available and how you can get it:
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. – 2 Peter 1:2-4
All Because God Wanted To
These verses, along with verses 5-9, are some of my favorites in the Bible. There is so much here for your benefit!
- Grace and peace are available (multiplied!) to you, and both come through knowledge of God and Jesus. What is knowledge of God? The implication is that it is an intimate relationship with Jesus.
- God’s divine power has given you "all things" for life and godliness. This implies that nothing has been held back or made a secret.
- “Has given” is in the past tense, meaning it is yours now as His child.
- The way you get it is “through the knowledge of Him who called us,” which again implies an intimate relationship with Jesus.
- Notice that “He called us.” He called you to be His child. This was not you calling to Him. He did it “by His own glory and virtues.” He did not call you because of your merits or because you had something He needed. It was because He wanted to!
Does this sound appealing to you yet?
There’s more!
- You “…have been given exceedingly great and precious promises…” Please consider the words used, not simply good promises, but exceedingly great and precious ones!
- The promises provide participation in the divine nature of God
- The promises provide an escape from corruption in the world that is here because of lust (evil desires).
Offering?
You have just read some enormously powerful statements, but something needs to be emphasized.
In this passage, is God offering you the BEST life?
NO! God is NOT offering you the BEST life! It is already yours if you are His child.
Every child of God has this BEST life, but you may not be living it or enjoying it! You know about your own life, hear and see other believers’ lives, and realize it might be difficult to classify your or their life as BEST.
You Already Have It!
The BEST life is yours, all bought and paid for, because you are a child of God, and He wants you to enjoy it! It is like a gift you received, but have not opened, like a gift card you keep, like a gift certificate you do not redeem, like a fabulous house you own but do not live in.
More importantly, it is like wishing for peace and joy, not realizing it is already yours!
The picture I use for myself is an exotic or expensive automobile. I have the keys to it, it is in pristine condition, but I never drive it. Instead, I always walk everywhere, wishing I had an automobile to drive.
You may be the same way. God has given you everything you need for the best life! He is the perfect Father, giving you everything you need for life and godliness. You have “exceedingly great and precious promises,” and you can “escape the corruption in this world through lust,” but your life may exhibit little, if any, evidence that is yours.
